Global Polo Hub

The field

A regulation grass polo field runs about 300 yards long by 160 wide (about 275 × 145 metres) — roughly nine football pitches. It's the largest field in organised team sport, and its size explains half of polo's tactics.

Why size dictates tactics

The ground itself

Top fields are agronomy projects — bred grasses, engineered drainage, surfaces mown tight and rolled true, because bad ground is dangerous ground at speed. And the half-time ritual survives everywhere: spectators walking the field to tread in divots — part ground care, part social institution, entirely mandatory to join. Spectator's guide.
